I have a guy who wants to give me $1500 for the Acclaim. Given I will likely retire it after this winter anyway, I figure I’ll let him have it.
This of course means we’ll need a replacement. I figure I can pick up something pretty decent for $1500.
Found some so far, I don’t mind doing some work to make it perfect.
Seems decent enough, albeit probably a scam:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
For $400 even if it needs a motor it could be a good deal:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Been itching for that 2.7L burble for a while:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Fix the door and run it:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
More 2.7, in RT sedan trim:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Pretty clean little Dynasty:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I’d put money on a simple fluid/filter change would clear up the “issue”:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Makes a bad noise when you turn, bets on wheel bearing (not trans):
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Quick repaint on the nose:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
329k, and people say Chrysler has no build quality.......I’d pass strictly on mileage, but it looks well kept:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Intrepid RT in decent shape:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

If he claims the Acclaim, do you aspire for an Aspire?

My terrible advice, Dodge Dynasty, I mean it’s named after a TV show. There’s your reason.

Why does every avenger have a dented rear door?

For $1500 or less Ill make you a good deal on a 1996 Volvo 850. I think its time you upgrade to a fine European luxury sedan.

That Magnum does not look like it has anything near 330K. That would be my choice - if it grenaded in a month you could still say you “once owned a Dodge Magnum with the Hemi” for the rest of time. Mopar bucket list stuff for only a grand.

that mangum is a steal for $1000, probably $800 out the door. Gambler, lemons, or just drive until it dies

I think those 2, the 300M, and the PT turbo are the ones I’d look at currently.
Although that Stratus RT sedan IS beckoning to me!

didn’t expect that comment from you, but you are oppo’s resident Mopar Guru.

The average “cheap” Mopar buyer fits that bill. Maybe worthless POS is a little strong, but they’re generally lower income people who just need transport and don’t bother caring about keeping it nice.

I mean, you hang out on Oppo, I assumed everyone here was at least somewhat interested in Volvos.
Sadly, it’s not a turbo, just an 850 GLT, which I think means it got a lot of the fancy turbo upgrades, nicer interior, etc., but not the turbo engine.

I’m probably stranded on a island by myself for saying this but I do like the Dodge Dynasty. Before I get banned from Oppo let me explain-Grandparents had a 1989 and it made many trips to and from Florida from Upstate NY. With the radwood trend I wish I still had it but I sold it after my grandmother passed to help to pay for my 1st apartment. Now I will see my self out.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a reliable, comfortable cruiser. I wouldn’t scoff at having one it my driveway.

One could definitely drive a LOT worse than a Dynasty.
They get a bad rep, but they’re comfy, efficient cruisers in stock form. Plus they are a great base for modding if you want more fun from them. They get no hate from me.

I know they are rare to find now but
the Dynasty was a great cruiser with the v-6 and I have a soft spot for under dog &
forgotten
cars like that. I know it would be similar to the Acclaim you have. That magnum on the other hand is tempting too.

I do have a neighbor interested in it for her kid so I’d need to talk to her first, but if she doesn’t want it I’ll keep you in mind. I’m also located near DC, so I don’t know but that may be a bit of a logistical challenge. Anyways, here’s what I can tell you about the car so far; I’ve only had it a month and driven it about 20 miles because it became apparent early on that there were some urgent maintenance items to do so it wouldn’t blow up (first timing belt, now oil o-rings ).
Exterior: Green. Overall clean and straight for it’s age/mileage (165k). One big ding on the edge of the trunk lid, and a minor amount of rash on the front right fender.
Interior: The carpet and rear seats are good. Front seats and shifter need to be replaced. The dash cover, arm rest, and door trims are pulled/warped and need some attention or replacement. I’m trying to make it to the junkyard this weekend, they have an 850 with the same color interior and a lot of these parts look good in it. Aside from that, everything seems to work (power windows, locks, sunroof, mirrors, etc.).
Engine: Did an air filter and oil change when I first got it. I’ve also replaced the timing belt, timing belt pulleys and tensioner, water pump, serpentine belt, and right lower motor mount. I ordered the other 2 lower mounts and they are on the way. Upper torque mount seems good, I’ll check the lower when I do the oil pan. It occasionally throws a Cylinder 1 misfire code, I need to do spark plugs. Wires and cap look good visually so I’m hoping it’s just plugs. I need to do the oil pan o-rings we discussed in another thread.
Transmission: This is what still scares me a little. I don’t think it had ever been serviced before I got it. I drained about 3 quarts when I first got it (capacity is about 8) and added 3 new quarts, took it for a spin and it seemed better though not perfect . I haven’t driven it much since then due to the timing belt (it had been 92 k miles / 16 years since it was last done) and now the top end tick.
Suspension: The front was sagging when I got it, and the struts looked to be in bad shape, so I ordered a full set of struts/shocks. I replaced the right front strut last weekend, and will do the left and hopefully rear shocks this weekend. The front swaybar end links have some play, so they should probably be replaced. Beyond that there’s some creaks and clunks in the front end, not sure what they are from, but my plan was to do the struts/shocks and motor mounts and then go from there. I noticed the right CV boot was torn, so I need to address that. I’ll look at the left when I do that strut.
